Issue 2: Six months down and we are just getting started!
We have done a lot at gnf since we started and we excited to share some of our findings!
What has gnf accomplished in six months?
We have awarded $7,000 in micro-grants, added 8 founders to our portfolio, hosted two launch events (Denver and Buffalo) and have brought on 16 LPs who bring a tremendous amount of knowledge and resources to our founders and applicants.
This is just the beginning!
Since our launch back in January of 2023 we have learned a lot about entrepreneurship and the opportunities there are to promote more diverse voices and founders. At gnf we are working to create a community within our community that embraces these voices and provides them resources to grow and empower them to take that leap of faith on their idea and themselves!
After working and speaking with founders there are two important obstacles I have found that founders commonly face, “Finding your Tribe” and “Imposter Syndrome.” These are both important obstacles to overcome and we, gnf, are working to create spaces and programs for founders to overcome these!
Finding your Tribe
Finding a community of founders and entrepreneurs is one of the most valuable tools you can utilize when beginning your journey. As we all know getting your idea off the ground is scary and overwhelming so a community of like minded individuals is important to work through the ups and downs.
We have heard many founders feel like they don’t have a place to go or know where to go when they are starting out– a lot of the events or programs aren’t a fit. At gnf we want everyone to have a seat at the table and feel welcomed. Therefore we are working to host more events, pitch contests, meet-ups and partner with other organizations to give everyone access to more communities.
Stay tuned! and don’t be afraid to reach out to other founders.
Imposter Syndrome
This is something we have all fallen victim to in the past and can be a HUGE hurdle in achieving our goals. At gnf we want you to believe in yourself but we are also here to help you build that confidence in yourself and your idea.
An important thing to remember as a founder is investors invest in founders. You have identified a problem and have found a solution most likely from personal experience. Lean into it!
Rachel Weissman gives good advice: “Investors invest in people. Outside your personal accolades, how can you stand out? Understand yourself, and tell a killer store. This way, you become more than just a founder, you become someone investors want to support and success”
We are kicking off our Q3 fall application process and we are looking forward to hearing more great ideas! That being said, we have launched a referral program that we would love for friends and family to refer an applicant. Any referral will receive a special “thank you.”
